The traditional bamboo jaw harp of the Ainu people (Japan), its played by pulling the string which is attached to the reed sideways, away from the head. Tight reed with proper and skillful handling gives a strong, loud, aggressive sound, not inferior to metal instruments.

The sound of this jawharp is unique with wooden timbre, an excellent percussion instrument.
