WHAT DOES THE JAW HARP SOUND BEGIN WITH?
WHAT DOES THE JAW HARP SOUND BEGIN WITH?
It begins
with a strike on the tongue, and the quality and depth of your sound depends on
how you strike. Beginners and continuing jew's harp players often make the same
mistake: they hit hard and deeply hook the tab of the tongue trying to get a
loud sound.
Alas, this approach leads to a dead end for several reasons.
1. Wrong
muscle stereotype is fixed. The hand will get tired more often and there will
never be lightness while playing. And
that lightness and fluidity, is necessary for further research of the Jew's
harp Universe.
2. The ear
is accustomed to loud and harsh sounds. At first that sound may seem good, but
everything is exactly the opposite. The jaw harp fully opens only when the
touch of the tongue is minimal. Then the vibrations go deeper and the attention
begins to distinguish a great variety of shades of sound.
We can say
that the jew's harp itself begins to prompt you further moves.
To avoid
this dead end, train yourself to hit strictly tangentially. It doesn't matter
that individual strikes will fail, but you will train yourself to be accurate.
Accuracy will allow you to play easily, to get a very tasty and beautiful sound, and at each subsequent step you will have more and more interest in the jew's harp.
